Contrary to the title, this is not a man-bashing blog (mostly!) but if you’ve seen this classic 2003 movie then you’ll absolutely understand where my title comes from.
Hey everybody and welcome to #Throwback Thursday, it’s the day of the week when we like to celebrate timeless movie classics. Let’s see if you can guess this one? A classic 2003 romantic drama with a star studded cast and a plot that involves men paying another man to seduce their wives sister. Yes, I am talking about the one and only Deliver Us From Eva! Did you get it right? I knew you would. First, let’s get into this cast! Gabrielle Union, LL Cool J, Essence Atkins, Duane Martin, Meagan Good, Robinne Lee, Mel Jackson, and Kym Whitley! I mean like look at the material here people! These are acting actors, not your regular actors with the subpar talent, alright! Now this is one of Gabrielle Union's earlier films and I believe one of her first lead roles and let me tell you… she played overbearing and crazy really well!
Second, let’s get into this plot! So the husbands of the Dandrige sisters cook up a extremely insensitive and dumb plan to get their sister Eva (Union) out of the picture. How do they do this? By paying a man named Ray (LL Cool J) $5,000 PLUS expenses to seduce her and break her heart so she’ll move away and leave them only! But since men are a little bit on the underdeveloped side, here are the things they didn’t account for… 1) that Eva was already planning to move away for a job, 2) Ray would eventually catch feelings and 3) all your lies catch up to you because you know this is life. Once the plan goes sour, they kidnap Ray and fake his death. Now Duane Martin plays a cop in this movie and kidnapping is literally like illegal. Ray comes clean but this is a movie so in the end, they eventually get back together, the sisters don’t leave their trifling husbands and everyone lives happily ever after.
Now look if this was me… I wouldn’t be going for none of that! Everybody is getting handled one way or another. All Eva was doing was taking care of her sisters to make sure they were straight in life but that ain’t never good enough for men. They were willing to ruin their wives sister just because she wanted to make sure her sisters weren’t out here making wrong decisions and will be doing okay in life. And if I was her sister, they would’ve been getting a beat down (we are a PG-13 blog here but yall know what I mean!) Deliver Us From Eva is the epitome of why men deserve less and need to stay out of women’s business! Men need to go on and build houses, go to war, or fix a car before they decide to get into women business!
