Honoring a Legend

Hey everyone and welcome back to Spooky Sunday’s!! Today comes with a little bit of a sad undertone as we honor a legendary director and celebrated writer. If you’ve ever been too scared to turn your lights off after a movie, you make sure your closet door is closed, or you've been too scared to even close your eyes… you have this man to thank for this! Today on Spooky Sunday, we honor Wes Craven on what would have been his 81st birthday!

Wes Craven has blessed us for years with his talent in horror directing and writing. Whether it’s keeping on the edge for a suspense plot twist in the Scream movies or if it was keeping us from going to bed due to the Freddy Kruger series or if it was making sure we try not to get stranded due to a fear of cannibals because of The Hills Have Eyes. Craven's career took off in 1972 with the release of the original “The Last House on the Left”. He served as the writer, director, and editor on the film and although the film was seen as repulsive to some critics, there was no denying that Carven became a force to be reckoned within the horror genre. His career came with 48 writing credits, 26 producer credits, and 36 director credits! Truly he had a long lasting career.

Now if you follow me on any of my personal social medias or even spoke to me in public, then you know what my favorite scary movie is. Wes Craven directing what I consider some of the greatest movies… Scream 1, 2, and 3 (not 4… hated it lol)! Do I like Scream for it’s scare tactic? No but it has great storylines. He is also the director of one of the few black horror movies: Vampire in Brooklyn. But Craven was one of the writers behind the first movie that ever scared me! I’ll never forget being about 6/7 being babysat by my oldest brother and him forcing me to watch this movie. It was none other than Freddy vs. Jason. The ultimate battle of the serial killers. You couldn’t stay up; you couldn’t go to sleep and Freddy Kruger’s song went with you everywhere.

After a long career of 33 years, 48 movies, and a net worth of over $40 million… The world lost the brilliance of Craven on August 30, 2015, four weeks after his 76th birthday after a long battle of brain cancer. To all of us horror fans and spooky persons, Wes Craven blessed us with a gift that will withstand a lifetime.

Dear Wes,  Happy Birthday and Rest in Power

Love and Light,

Maddy
