What do you get when you put legendary horror director Wes Craven, fine black men, and creatures of the night together?? Here I’ll tell you! The answer… Vampire in Brooklyn.
Ladies and Gentlemen! I welcome you to what I like to call Spooky Sunday’s!!
It is the day where we here at MEG Picture Studios like to honor the best movie genre ever… HORROR. So let’s get into it. Vampire in Brooklyn is a horror/comedy film that can tickle your soul while having you piss in your pants depending on what time of night you watch it. Now, does VIB scare me now? Of course not but I will say Eddie Murphy used to have young me shaking with fear, alright!!!
Now just in case, you are someone who doesn’t dabble in scary movies or have an extremely poor choice in film choices… Vampire in Brooklyn is a movie written by the late and great Charlie Murphy about a vampire named Maximillian, played by legendary Eddie Murphy, who comes to Brooklyn to look for his “soul-mate”, a half-human/half-vampire by the name of Detective Rita Veder, played by the iconic Angela Bassett. Now just off those three names… iconic! This movie also featured amazing black actors such as Allen Payne, Kadeem Hardison, alongside Zakes Mokae and John Witherspoon (may they both rest in peace).
The best part of VIB is how between the script, the actors, and the iconic Wes Craven is the ability to mix black horror and comedy. Now the mix is done a lot but that doesn’t mean it’s done well. Craven and the Murphy brothers do well with mashing comedic dialogue with spooky actions. Vampire in Brooklyn came with an amazing script tapped with some amazing and talented actors. It has also been noted as one of John Witherspoon’s favorite movies that he’s worked on.
Vampire in Brooklyn and their star-studded cast can be seen on the STARZ app!
Because if you haven't seen it then...
Happy Spooky Sunday,
Maddy
